Ubuntu Phones To Launch Phones In October – Mark Shuttleworth

Feb 07, 13 Ubuntu Phones To Launch Phones In October – Mark Shuttleworth

Mark Shuttleworth founder of Canonical Ltd, confirmed to Wall Street Journal in a brief interview about the launch of Ubuntu Phones in October by this year. Smartphones from Ubuntu are expected to roll out on the well-liked Linux OS!

Apparently, Samsung Google Nexus Phones are the only ones that use the Operating System for now. By installing the open-source code as a file on a Nexus phone, an user can replace the Android OS to Linux without much of a pain. However, the future will see Ubuntu rolling out the entry level models along with the high-end smartphones in to the market.

While the low-end models are expected to come packed with 1GHz Cortex A9 processor paired with 1GB or 512MB of RAM accommodating a storage space of at-least 4GB or 8GB storage capacity via microSD slot. The high-end models are likely to get a quad-core A9 or an Intel Atom processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of external storage via microSDslot. And ironically, an app store is also getting ready side by side.

The screen size and other feature details aren’t available yet, but we can expect the screens to sport touch functionality. The handsets from Ubuntu will offer connections to bigger screens and also provide access  to Windows apps.
