A decade ago – BlackBerry products chiefly sold-out well among the business class customers who needed to be hooked on to their official mails all the time.

Following it, then came the very successful Curve series which was a hit among college students.

Those days; it did matter a lot in public if you owned a BlackBerry – since it was considered as an enterprise-level phone.

The advent of smartphones and with BlackBerry just staying along by its executive level – paved way for others to climb-up the market ladder only to push it down.

After years BlackBerry is back with new models in the market to reclaim its past glory. These devices run on BlackBerry’s self-developed mobile OS called the BlackBerry 10.

The Z10 and Q10 released in the month of January this year but were over-priced above RS.40,000 only to turn-down the middle-class buyers in India. Nevertheless, the pricing as such has been universally criticized.

Finally, BlackBerry released its mid class model called the BlackBerry Q5 under a price tag of Rs 24,990.

Let’s take a quick look to find out if BlackBerry Q5 is worth the buy for the money.

Form Factor

The Q5 is a all plastic phone and the one in Red is more attractive than others.

In-spite of the all plastic make it gets the rugged look and solid finish which gives it the premium look. Nevertheless, try not forget this model doesn’t support any accidental drops!

It is a well-designed phone with rounded corners, flat sides, QWERTY keyboard and is a lot thinner version than its siblings.

On the top is the power/lock button and a 3.5 mm audio out. To the top right is the volume control and camera buttons in camera mode. There are no microHDMI port on the device.

The device is fitted with 5MP 1080p HD Camera with an LED Flash in the rear and a 2MP 720p HD front camera. There is an LED indicator in the front display next to the 2MP camera.

Display

The Q5 sports a 3.1inch touchscreen with 720 x 720 resolution at 329 pixels per inch square display. It offers bright colors that are rich and vivid.

Processor, RAM & Storage

The phone uses a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon with 2GB of RAM, the processor clocks a speed of 1.2 GHz. The Q5 has 8GB of internal storage space which can be extended by microSD card 32GB.

Software, Battery & Connectivity

The Q5 runs on BlackBerry‘s own software BB10. It is powered by 2,180mAh battery. The connectivity features on the handset includes 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and NFC.

The BB10 offers 120,000  apps that can be accessed via BlackBerry World however, Instagram, Google Maps are some of the major miss outs.

The device as such is priced at Rs 24,990 and is expected to hit the retail shelves by June 20th. The phone is anticipated to compete against Google Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, Sony Xperia SP and Nokia Lumia 820. It will roll out in red, white and black colors.
