Finally, Apple is back to the number one position pushing down Samsung in the Q4 sales. The Apple iPhone 4S global sales took the lead against Samsung S3 in the last quarter.

According to Strategy Analytics report, the sale trend showed that Apple 4S and Apple 5 to have moved up the ladder to hold on to number one and number two positions respectively – Samsung SIII is ranked third.

The iPhone 4S was launched by the  Cupertino Smartphone maker in the market in October 2011, sold 17.4 million units. However, the eight months later launched Samsung Galaxy S3 sold only 15.4 million units.

With Apple claiming 8% of the market share, the Korean manufacturer accounted for 7.1%. In the last quarter of 2012 Apple iPhone 5 sold 27.4 million units worldwide. The smartphone, which hit the stores in September, sold 6 million units in the third quarter.

The overall global sales of smartphone totals to 217 million units between October to December of 2012. The previous quarter sold 172.8 million units.

The recent reports indicate Apple’s smartphone devices are the most sought brand in India next to Samsung. Going by IDC data, Samsung is reported have seen a drop by 12% in profit.
