Apple’s iPad mini 2 and Google’s Nexus 7 are locked in a 7-inch tablet war in India. While Apple’s device uses iOS platform – Nexus runs on Android.

These operating systems have stirred much of the debate since their entry with users trying to convince others of their choices.

Build & Design

Both the tablets have 7.9 inch screen size; notably Apple iPad mini 2 is little wider than the Google Nexus 7.

While Nexus 7 weighs 290 gram and the iPad mini 2 weighs 331 gram not much of difference though, uniformly both have thinner bezels on them that are quite attractive.

Apple has premium finish on its aluminium chasis, similar to the predecessor model iPad mini. The Nexus 7 has soft rubberized plastic on the back to offer comfortable hold.


The iPad mini 2 has high-resolution Retina display at 2048 x 1536 pixels and Nexus 7 at 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. On the display front both have an upgrade over the previous iteration of the tablets. The pixels per inch are 326ppi and 323ppi respectively.

They are likely to offer same quality output.

Operating System

While Nexus 7 packs the latest Android 4.4 KitKat – Apple iPad mini 2 with Retina display runs iOS 7.  The operating systems are unique in their own way and offer quality tablet apps.


Without any questions Apple’s Retina display tablet is expensive and priced at Rs 28,900. The premium positioning of the maker and materials and hardware justify to the cost.

The Google Nexus 7 is way to lesser than its competitor and starts at Rs 20,999.


Nexus 7 equally packs quality hardware with whole host of further improvements, it is affordable as well. However, if you can afford Apple for its premium hardware and quality apps go ahead and grab it.
