Search engine giant Google has unveiled its second-generation tablet dubbed as Asus Google Nexus 7 2. While the number 7 in the name represents its screen size, the number 2 stands for second-generation make.

In terms of key changes, the tablet computer will come with updated operating system Android 4.3 and media streaming. As the name suggests, the tablet was developed under the combined efforts of Google and ASUS.

Design & Build

Google uses the same standard plastic on its next-gen Nexus 7 tablet chassis with a refined body-shell surrounding the glass panel. The tablet measures 7.9 inches long, 4.5 inches wide, 0.3 inches thick and weighs 290 gm.

The rear side of the device is made rubbery with leathery texture to offer the user a firm grip to hold, “Nexus” is carved at the center with ‘ASUS’ positioned at the bottom.


The display measures  7.02” (178mm) diagonal and has a LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1920 x 1080p resolution and 323ppi pixel density.

This is an improvement over the first-generation tablet make that has 1280 x 800p resolution and 216ppi display.

A scratch resistant corning glass adorns the screen to withstand scuffing.


The Google Nexus 7 2 packs a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 and 2 GB RAM. This is an upgrade from the 1.3GHz quad-core Nvidia chipset found in the first-generation tablet.

The manufacturer has two variants of Google Nexus 7 to offer to its customers namely 16GB and 32GB. Both the devices feature wireless charging facility and will run on Google’s yet to release OS Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Perhaps it could also come out with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with an upgrade option to Android 4.3, this is still debated!

The Connectivity suite in the tablet include 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and microUSB 2.0.


The  Google Nexus 7 2 is fitted with 5MP camera with 1080p video recording capability on the back, while a 1.2 MP, 720p video recording @ 30 fps unit decorates the front.


The unveiling event also witnessed the Chromecast priced $35.

It is a dongle that allows users to connect with TVs via HDMI port and enables users to stream videos from their iOS or Android gadgets on the big screen. You can buy Google Chromecast for Rs. 3,600.


The device is expected to roll-out in to the market by 30th of July 2013. Currently you can preorder and buy New Asus Google Nexus 7 inch Tablet 16 GB (Black) at Rs. 21,999 and New Asus Google Nexus 7 inch Tablet 32GB (Black) at Rs. 24,299.
